PicLits

I thought I’d try out PicLits: inspired picture writing.

PicLits.com is a creative writing site that matches beautiful images with carefully selected keywords in order to inspire you. The object is to put the right words in the right place and the right order to capture the essence, story, and meaning of the picture.

I wasn’t that pleased with my first effort, so I tried another one.

Well, unless I’ve missed something, the list of words is limited. Then again, I haven’t read the instructions, just had a go.  I think there’s something to be said for adding text to a picture from a limited supply. The challenge is to work with what you’ve got, thinking about the position of the words, whether you want a sparse message or story, or whether you want a more crowded and descriptive text.

Definitely much to play with either in English, foreign language or English as a Second Language classes.

I almost forgot to thank Tom Barrett for this application, and if you go to this post you’ll find 9 other digital writing opportunities.

  1. I agree. This site is great to stimulate creative writing. May I ask how you loaded your photos onto your blog? I want to write a blog post about my efforts as well, and link back to you.

  2. OK, Paul, I couldn’t embed the PicLit picture, so I just saved it into my pictures, after having made it smaller, and then uploaded it. There’s probably a better way, but someone else would have to work it out.

Thanks for the kudos regarding PicLits.com. It sounds like you feel limited by the words provided for DRAG-N-DROP. Remember, if you go to FREESTYLE, you can use your own words and you will see a new feature where we give you 11 or so keywords from the home page. Also, look below and see “MORE KEYWORDS” and you will get all the words from D-n-D which means you can combine your words with our words and write on the photo. We do not allow for the uploading of photos for obvious reasons. You must register / sign in to save PicLits to the Gallery and My PiclIts files. New feature for 2009 that are on the drawing board are 1. PRINT IT function. 2. PHOTOS being group by theme/catgory to connect with literature. 3. a possible award winner/contest.

Happy 2009 …. cheers, Terry F, founder of PicLits
